Hi! Flossie here. We’ve just been on the most amazing camping weekend! I almost didn’t want to go as I knew I would miss the fairies but Mum said it would be a real adventure. Oh, it really was brilliant. We cooked food on an actual campfire (well, Dad burnt the sausages on the campfire) and we all slept in the same tent, even Rocket, our dog squeezed in! And the biggest surprise? We camped in our garden at 22, Maple Syrup Lane, so I didn’t have to leave the fairies after all!
Here’s how to make the special Camping Cupcakes we made to take with us, I’ve used special icing that’s just like play dough – so you can model with it BUT IT’S EDIBLE – how cool is that!!
What you need:
115g caster sugar
115 g softened butter
115g self raising flour
1 tablespoon milk
1 packet green ready to roll Flossie Crums icing
1 packet red ready to roll icing
tube white writing icing
What you do:
Ask a grown-up to preheat the oven to 190ºC/375ºC/gas mark 5. Then, pop 12 paper cupcake cases into a 12 holed muffin tray. Put all the cupcake ingredients into a mixing bowl and mix everything together for about 4 minutes or until there are no lumpy bits of butter. Put one tablespoon of mixture into every paper case.Ask a grown-up to help you put the tin in the oven, then bake for 18 minutes.Ask a grown-up to take the cupcakes out the oven and leave them to cool completely.
Roll out the green icing and cut circles to fit the top of each cup cake (use a coffee jar lid if you don’t have a cutter.) To make the green icing look like grass, you can use a clean sponge and press this into the icing, it looks really effective.)
Now your play dough skills are required, but this time you can eat it! Model the green icing so that it looks like a tent and make a little camp fire using chopped up chocolate flakes and red icings for the flames. Finally, when you’re happy with your tent, use the white writing icing to ‘draw’ rope guy lines.
